The 2010 Coupage (Bravdo) is a blend of 40% Cabernet Franc, 33% Shiraz and 27% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for 12 months in a mixture of French and American oak. Tasting this right after the lovely Merlot created some serious palate adjustment issues. The focused, precise, somewhat lean Merlot contrasts notably with this more voluptuous and velvety wine. Certainly, this coupage is more “obvious” and impressive on first taste, although I ultimately had a minor personal preference for the Merlot. (Your mileage may differ.) With a trace of oak up front, this has a fruit-forward feel. There is nothing terribly complicated or concentrated here, but it is lush and reasonably well supported in structure and quite charming, with an olive note in the background. Drink now-2018.

In past iterations, I have not always been as happy with the wines from this property, but these certainly show notable improvement and I rather enjoyed them. It is also nice that they are well-priced and provide some value for the money as well.
